Fall Turf Update

A Fall Update from Bill McAllister
As we move into the fall season, our Turf team is continuing to work hard to prepare RattleSnake Point for the remainder of this year and, just as importantly, set the club up for a strong start to next season.
Over the coming weeks, you will see us working through a number of important fall projects across the property. One of the more visible projects will be cutting back and managing the fescue throughout the courses. This helps keep areas tidy, improves playability and allows us to better manage the growth going into the winter months.
We will also be spending time preparing the playing surfaces for next season. This includes verticutting and grooming the aprons and other areas around the greens to manage organic material, encourage healthy turf growth and maintain consistent playing conditions. We will continue with our regular fall mowing, trimming and leaf management as the season progresses, while also addressing drainage, irrigation and other maintenance items around the property.
As temperatures begin to drop, we will gradually make adjustments to our irrigation program. At the end of October, the irrigation lines will be blown out to prepare the system for the winter and help protect the infrastructure from freezing temperatures.
Fall is a busy time for the Turf team, and much of the work we do during this period isn't always noticeable to members while you're out playing. A lot of it is focused on setting the turf up to handle the winter and ensuring we are in a good position when spring arrives.
We will continue to keep the courses playable for as long as conditions allow while balancing that with the maintenance required to protect the property and prepare for next season.
Thank you to all of our members for your continued support of the Turf team throughout the year. We appreciate the feedback and enjoy seeing everyone out on the courses.
Thanks,
Bill McAllister
