Turf Update - June '26
08 JUN 2026
June Agronomy Update
June is a pivotal month for turf development. With warmer soil temperatures and
longer daylight hours, the plant is now in an active growth phase. This gives us an
important opportunity to build density, strengthen roots, and refine playing conditions
before the stresses of midsummer arrive.
Here is what you can expect throughout the month.
Encouraging Healthy Growth
In June, we begin carefully increasing fertility to “push” the turf in a controlled
manner. This does not mean forcing excessive top growth, but rather strengthening
the plant from the root system upward.
Healthy turf entering July is far more capable of tolerating heat, traffic, and moisture
fluctuations. Building that resilience now is one of our primary objectives.
Green Speed & Surface Management
As soils warm, greens naturally become firmer and smoother. Many factors influence
putting speed, including:
● Moisture management
● Mowing frequency
● Rolling schedules
● Overall plant health
Our approach is always centered on sustainability. While we strive for excellent
putting conditions, plant health remains the priority. Consistent speeds and smooth
surfaces over the long term are more important than short-term extremes.
Preparing for Summer Stress
June is also preparation month. Root depth, soil structure, and moisture balance
developed now will determine how well the golf course performs during peak
summer heat.
Much of the work happening this month is preventative — strengthening the turf
before stress becomes a factor.
We are positioning the course to perform well not only today, but throughout the most
demanding part of the season.
