10 JUN 2022

US Open Qualifier – June 6, 2022:

June started off with the US Open Qualifier on CopperHead this past Monday and was a tremendous success again.

The turf team worked incredibly hard to get CopperHead glowing for the event.  We were concerned with the Poa Annua seed head and the greens not being as pure as we wanted, but they were a firm and fast challenge for the tour pros that competed for US Open spots.

You will see a lot of new faces this year on our turf team and please say hello to them as they all demonstrated immense pride in their jobs and performed to the very best of their abilities to produce exceptional conditions for the US Open Qualifier.

SideWinder #12 – New Red Tees:

We are adding a new Red tee deck on SideWinder #12, which is currently 470 yards from existing red tees and has one the smallest greens on the property.  As our women Members know, it is a challenging hole from the red tees, which is typically into the wind, and often requires a lay-up shot (or two) due to surrounding fescue and carry between the fairways.

By July, we will complete the new red tee-deck, remove some surrounding fescue, and reduce the overall red-tee length of the hole, which will improve playability, pace of play, and hopefully your enjoyment of this hole.

Bunker Renovation Project Updates:

CopperHead #2 work has begun to construct new bunkers.

Our turf crew will be working extremely hard to complete these bunkers as quickly as possible to minimize interruption to your golf round.

As such, the teams will not pause their work as each group plays the hole and we apologize for any inconvenience this will cause.

Please maintain your safety around these under construction areas.

We will continue to communicate the location of bunker work through the golf shop team, Starter, newsletter, and other communication methods like social media.

We know you will be happy with the result of these course improvements.

Sincerely,

Bill McAllister, Golf Course Superintendent
