Turf Agronomy Update - September
30 AUG 2026
September Agronomy Update
September is one of the most productive months in turf management. Cooler nights
and shorter days create ideal growing conditions, allowing the plant to recover from
summer stress.
This is when we become more aggressive with improvement practices.
Verti-Cutting on Tees & Collars
You will notice heavier verti-cutting on tees and collars this month. This process
removes excess organic buildup and promotes upright growth, improving firmness
and surface consistency.
Recovery during September is significantly faster than in midsummer, making it the
ideal time for these practices.
Strengthening for the Future
In addition to surface refinement, we focus on improving root density and overall turf
strength heading into fall.
The work completed in September plays a significant role in how the course
performs next spring. Strong turf entering winter is far more resilient to ice,
desiccation, and other seasonal stresses.
While some practices may temporarily affect appearance, the long-term benefits are
substantial.
