Winter Update - RattleSnake Turf

03 FEB 2026

Hello Everyone,

With the amount of snow we’ve had this winter, I wanted to share a quick update on how things are looking on the course and what we’re doing as we head toward spring.

Believe it or not, a solid blanket of snow can actually be a good thing. It helps insulate the turf and protects our greens, tees, and fairways from extreme cold and drying winds. That protection goes a long way in setting us up for a healthier start once warmer weather arrives.

Of course, extended snow cover also comes with a few challenges. Our team has been keeping a close eye on conditions throughout the winter, especially on greens. Preventative steps were taken in the fall to manage snow mold, and we continue to monitor snow depth, melting patterns, and any potential ice buildup as the weather fluctuates.

As the snow begins to melt, our focus will be on managing moisture and avoiding unnecessary traffic while the ground is soft. Being patient during this early transition helps protect the turf and leads to better playing conditions as the season gets going. Sometimes that means a slower green-up, but it’s always with the long game in mind.

We continue to build our team during the months of January and February. There are students we lose to their ‘careers’, semi retired staff that decide to fully retire and some who get promoted to Assistant positions. Our crew has a great return rate and this helps so much with training and acclimatization to the position.  The turf maintenance team is just about ready and fully engaged as we move toward spring, and we’re looking forward to getting the course back into playing shape and welcoming everyone out soon.
