Food and Beverage Update
15 NOV 2022
Recently, I had the opportunity to enjoy the hospitality of Inniskillin and Jackson Triggs Wineries in Niagara. We have an amazing experience at our doorstep however many of us are too busy to take time to enjoy it. The visit was informative, the foods were wonderful, and the service was warm and welcoming.
I must admit my small wine selection at home does not currently house Canadian wines …until now. We all have our favourite wine however the opportunity to try new local wines is something to take advantage of. The Niagara backdrop is unique and a true destination. It can be a day trip or an overnight weekend getaway. In 2023, regardless of your wine preference, make time to enjoy the experience!
Canada has become the world’s leading Ice Wine producer. What is Canadian ice wine?
Icewine is a dessert wine renowned for its intense flavours, rich bouquet, and smoothness. Niagara's Icewine comes from grapes that are left on the vine into the winter, where the water contents of the grape freeze when temperatures get below -7°C. After being picked and pressed, the juice yielded from the frozen grapes has a higher concentration of sugar. Quality grapes destined for Ice Wine cannot be harvested along with the other quality grapes of summer.
Serve chilled ice wine alone, with semi-sweet desserts, or with spicy or strongly-flavoured foods.
Ice wine needs to be refrigerated after it has been opened.
Look to your local LCBO for selection and various websites for more information!
The seasons have changed, the golf course is closed. The clubhouse transitions now to Christmas events. The southern migration begins. We wish you all a safe, happy, and healthy winter season!
